Senior Full Stack Engineer (Elixir/ React)

What You’ll Be Doing

You'll be working on our Performance Management product - a mature platform that helps companies run goals, reviews, continuous feedback, and 1-on-1s. This isn't a greenfield project where you're figuring out product-market fit. It's a product people actually use and depend on, which comes with its own interesting challenges.

Your day-to-day will be split between:

• Building new capabilities that customers are asking for (and sometimes things they don't know they need yet)

• Modernizing the codebase - we're actively rewriting parts of the product to improve performance and maintainability

• Solving scale challenges - the product works, but we need it to work better as we grow

This is collaborative work - you'll have opinions on what to build and how, and we want to hear them. We value engineers who think deeply about the user problems we're solving, not only the technical implementation.

The Technical Reality

Our Stack:

• Backend: Elixir/Phoenix - we chose it for concurrency and maintainability as we scale

• Frontend: React - modern, component-based UI

• Data Layer: PostgreSQL, RabbitMQ, Redis, Oban

• Legacy: Parts of the app are still in Rails, though we're actively migrating away

The kinds of problems we've tackled recently:

• Designing features that handle complex workflows (performance reviews with multiple stakeholders, approval chains, custom templates)

• Making existing features fast when dealing with large organizations (think: 10k+ employees, complex reporting structures)

• Building intuitive UIs for features that are inherently complex (nobody loves performance reviews, but we can make them not painful)

• Refactoring legacy code while keeping the product running for customers

• Making architectural decisions about how new features should be built

About You

• Strong Elixir OR React experience - you need to be proficient in at least one. Ideally both, but we can work with strong fundamentals in one if you're willing to learn the other. You don't need to be perfectly balanced - we value depth in one area over being average at both.

• Senior-level judgment - you've seen enough codebases to know when to refactor and when to ship, when to optimize and when "good enough" is actually good enough

• Full stack mindset - you're comfortable (or willing to get comfortable) working across the entire stack, from database queries to UI components

• Product thinking - you don't just implement specs, you think about whether we're solving the right problem. You're pragmatic and able to evaluate and make tradeoffs when necessary. Comfortable with experimentation and prototyping

• Communication skills - you can articulate technical trade-offs to non-technical teammates and contribute to technical discussions with engineers

• Comfortable with synchronous collaboration - we balance sync and async work. Expect regular pair programming sessions and real-time problem solving alongside independent work
